Leaning new Rendering methods...

When doing 3D work for clients, I tend to ask when the deadline will be so I can decide what pipeline I should use to meet it. Of course, the shorter the deadline, things may tend to loose quality. As for me, I do all my best to achieve both quality and speed at the same time. Before hearing or learning about the capabilities of this rendering engine I discovered, I only use two methods of rendering. This involves a multi-pass method and the other, a single pass method that isn't as good in quality but can be at least pleasant to look at.

But if we talk about quality and deadlines are a bit wee far away, I guess it's time to use a very special tool. A rendering tool.

So far, I have been getting great results (and even better than the multi-pass method). Using only three lights, I get to achieve the looks below.

Nice too look at ain't it? It looks quite real... but empty.
Still bland, but it's got form.

The only downside to rendering something this good is it's rendering time. It absolutely blows your mind waiting for it to end. But the wait is worth it. But as of now, I can conclude it's not a great thing to use for those tight scheduled animation projects.

Tomorrow, stay tuned for more of what I produced with this amazing render engine.

Upcoming Short

I finally get some time to work on my own stuff after some REAL work (you know the one that pays...). This idea of mine has been on my head for a long time. I'm sure it's been done a lot of times and it's going to be very unoriginal. The only reason I want to do this is because it will test my knowledge in mixing CGI with live footage.

Well, of course I won't be telling you what it's going to be but as of now, I have little image that gives a clue of what's to come. :D
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Yeah, I know it has the same background as the teapot... Until I get the urge to hold my DVcam and shoot some low budget DV footage, I'll do more updates. :D

My sense of destruction...

Here's some samples of my work destroying a city that is actually an image that was shot during the bright days of the morning. When I have the time, I maybe able to post some breakdowns.

This is actually an experiment of particle systems for compositing and 3D. Matching the view of the 3D particles to the image was quite hard but I think I got some of it right. Enjoy seeing some stuff go BOOM!

Attempts on photorealism

Fine, I have an obsolete model of a videocam. My DV footage is poor so I had to match the teapot's quality to the live footage. As for the coke in can, the main focus of that experiment is the dripping at the bottom of the can. Take a look, you might find it amusing. :D
